When we initiate steps towards change with a conscious mind, the mind-body-energy system can counter the change in order to stay true to its deeper design of survival.
You tell yourself you’re going to lose weight, then food suddenly becomes more appealing than ever. You decide you’re going to be more supportive to your employees and you begin to see fault in every action they take. You commit to a regular exercise protocol, and suddenly your discretionary time disappears.
Why does this happen?
Energy psychology refers to this dynamic where the more strongly we’re determined to change a particular pattern of thought or behavior, the more effectively we maintain it as a psychological reversal. The existing pattern is so deeply embedded in the energy system, and the mind’s instruction to change it, well, it’s met with suspicion and resistance.
Your system is built to keep you alive. And when it is presented with a change—even though you consciously know this is for your highest good—your survival program will kick in in panic because the change you’re wanting to make is a different pattern than it knows.
The following three steps will help you clear this resistance to change, and align your energy to support the change you’re desiring to happen more naturally and gracefully.
Repeat this affirmation after me: I am easily and comfortably releasing any and all survival programs, both conscious and unconscious, which frees me up to create new healthy patterns that reflect the truth of who I am.
Think of a pattern you’d like to change only to be met by resistance and sabotage. Notice how frustrated and powerless you feel, and that you might not be able to change this pattern.
Great. Now that you that in mind, step one. Tap up and around your ears. This is your fight and flight meridian. We’re going to tap out the fight-and-flight energy while repeating: It is safe to get over this pattern. It is safe to get over this pattern. It is safe to get over this pattern. Smoothing out the energy on those meridians. It is safe to get over this pattern.
Now continue to present yourself with the pattern you’re wanting to change. Put your hand on your heart center, take a deep breath, repeat after me: I’m okay no matter what happens. Everyone is okay no matter what happens. I’m okay no matter what happens. Everyone is okay no matter what happens. I am okay no matter what happens. Everyone is okay no matter what happens. Deep breath.
The third step. Holding your fingertips on your neurovascular points will help dissipate sadness and fear, letting go of more resistance. Repeat after me: I really want to get over this pattern. I’m ready now. I really want to get over this pattern. I am ready now. I really want to get over this pattern. I am ready now.
Shake that energy off, letting go of all that resistance, wiping off your body. You can use all three steps as frequently as they help you shift your energy from one of stress, and anxiety, and resistance, to one of calm and open. You can also use the steps independent of the others, if you feel they’re supportive to you in achieving this energetic shift.
